MAN OF GOD – Part 2

The Life and Times of Sir John Francis Taylor – The Middle Years 1878-1883

John Taylor answers a call to duty given to him by Queen Victoria. The Queen was personally familiar with John’s preaching and teaching and sought to use him to serve the British Commonwealth’s national interest. In that era, the Queen was the most powerful leader in the world. As a sovereign, the Queen possessed the power to require almost anything of her subjects, and John was no exception.

In 1867, the British Empire needed a better location than fever-ridden Hong Kong to station their troops in Asia, so the Straits Settlements (four Malaysian cities, including Singapore) were made a crown colony. By 1877, Singapore was the dominant seaport and growing too fast. Constant uprisings were causing disorder, making it difficult to govern the harbor city. Crime, vice and gangs ruled the region.

In this story, Queen Victoria sought to tame the social unrest by planting a church in Singapore—a personal initiative she sought to accomplish, and John was her man. John and the missionary team must navigate twists and turns often facing death and mayhem. Once again John faces heartbreak when he falls in love a woman on the missionary team.

The Missionary who is John Francis Taylor – Part II

Intrigue and mayhem cannot stop what God wants to accomplish through John Taylor and the missionaries. Even so, violent storms take a heartbreaking human toll that devastates everyone. After months of drifting at sea, a savage island tyrant terrorizes the British missionaries, but John and the team are  miraculously delivered in an unexpected way—a sovereign act of God of a biblical proportion. Love and romance, both nefarious and righteous, threaten to complicate the ongoing human drama as the missionary team work among themselves and engage with the islanders.

This story continues from The Missionary Part I, where John Taylor sails to Singapore with his missionary team. John had been conscripted by Queen Victoria to establish a new church in the crime-ridden port city of Singapore. Upon arrival, the ship and crew are attacked by the criminal element and forced to flee to an unknown port for refuge. But God’s providence was working to turn the misfortune to good for His glory.
